Baltis

Terraforming game

Terraform Venus over seven centuries. Every megaproject is decided by the citizens who will pay for it.

In development for iPhone and Android, then PC

Baltis on a tablet held sideways at Gate II, the Shade, in 2522: the globe in the Temperature lens with the ground at about 423 °C under the cloud cities Aldis and Sedna, the first sunshade segments beside the planet, and the decade’s chronicle and who pays on the right. (open full size)
Gate II on a tablet: the sunshade goes up and the ground begins to cool.

How it plays

  • You begin in two cloud cities, Aldis and Sedna, 52 km above the surface, with 4,800 people and about thirty years of water
  • Every megaproject is a bill put to nine named citizens drawn by lot. You shape the odds; you never set the verdict
  • A globe built from real Magellan topography, with lenses for water, light, temperature, CO₂, seas and life
  • The climate model is grounded in real physics, and the seas fill Venus’s real lowlands
  • Families remember how they were treated, and the chronicle records who paid for what
  • Nothing makes you wait: Run on passes quiet decades and stops for every decision

Part One: four gates

I. The Veil
Water for two cloud cities
II. The Shade
A sunshade between Venus and the Sun, and its price
III. The Drawdown
The carbon comes out of the sky, and the cities come down
IV. The Water
Imports and ice, and the first seas

Part One ends at the River, the Roofed Valley or the Long Sky, or in one of the ways to lose, and closes with the chronicle’s account of who paid for what.

Free. It will come first as an app you install from the browser on a phone, tablet or computer, then on itch.io and the app stores. Everything in it, from the globe to the portraits, is drawn by code.
